Our 16-cage Promethion system records respiratory gas exchange, food and water intake, and activity continuously in conscious mice. These non-invasive measurements help researchers explore how genotype, diet or treatment affects energy balance.
- Non-invasive respiratory measurements
- 16 experimental cages
- Stable isotope gas analysis with an agreed tracer protocol

What we measure
- Oxygen consumption (VO₂) and carbon dioxide production (VCO₂)
- Energy expenditure and respiratory exchange ratio (RER)
- Food and water intake, locomotor activity and wheel running
- Labelled substrate oxidation using expired ¹³CO₂, with an agreed tracer protocol
Planning your study
Agree acclimatisation, environmental temperature, light cycle and recording duration before booking. Include body composition measurements where appropriate and discuss the analysis, particularly when groups differ in body size. Stable isotope studies need a separate tracer plan.
